In this edition of “Teacher Stories”, we bring you an inspiring conversation with Mr. Jairaj Chhetry, a passionate Grammar teacher at Embee Rosebud Higher Secondary School. With decades of experience and a love for teaching, Mr. Chhetry shares his journey, thoughts on teaching in the digital age, and how Class Saathi is helping him transform his classroom.
Q: Mr. Chhetry, tell us a little about your journey as an educator.
Mr. Chhetry: I have been in the teaching profession since 1980. I retired last year in November as a Headmaster, but my passion for teaching didn’t let me stop. I love children, and educating them is more than just a profession—it’s a hobby. So now, I’m continuing to contribute by teaching at Embee Rosebud Higher Secondary School.
Q: That’s amazing! What subjects do you currently teach?
Mr. Chhetry: I primarily teach English Grammar to Grade 9. But I also teach Mathematics to students in Grades 7 and 8, even though I’m from an Arts background with a Master’s in Sociology. Teaching is something I enjoy deeply, regardless of the subject.
Q: You've also received recognition for your work. Tell us about that.
Mr. Chhetry: Yes, I have been honoured by both the District and State governments of Meghalaya for my contribution to education. It has always been my aim to give back to society, not just through teaching but also through social work. I also enjoy editing English magazines in my free time. I believe that as long as you have the will, there are many ways to contribute.
Q: How has your teaching style changed with the rise of digital tools in education?
Mr. Chhetry: This is a digital era—we can’t keep relying on traditional methods. Technology has made things much easier for educators. I’ve always been a creative teacher, so using digital tools excites me. They allow us, as teachers, to keep learning and growing as well.
Q: How has your experience been with Class Saathi in the classroom?
Mr. Chhetry: Class Saathi has added so much life to my classroom. Students love it, especially when we use it to run assessments. The entire class becomes energetic and engaged. It’s no longer a dull, silent session—students actively participate and even look forward to assessments now! It turns learning into an experience.
Mr. Jairaj Chhetry’s story reminds us that passion for teaching knows no age or limits. With the right tools like Class Saathi, every classroom can become a place where learning is fun, interactive, and inspiring for both teachers and students.
