In our latest teacher story campaign, we had the pleasure of speaking with Ms. Suram Pooja, an inspiring educator from Nalanda High School, Hyderabad. Passionate about teaching and with a knack for innovation in education, Ms. Pooja shared her journey, challenges, and technology's role in transforming classrooms today. Here's what she had to say:
Interviewer: What inspired you to choose teaching as your profession?
Ms. Pooja: The responsibility that comes with being an educator excites me the most. I believe teachers have the power to shape the future of a nation. That’s a privilege and a challenge I take very seriously.
Interviewer: Tell us a little about your early life and how it shaped your teaching journey.
Ms. Pooja: I was born in Hyderabad in 1999. I was a mischievous student who often avoided doing homework. However, there were people in my life who motivated me to study hard and work on myself. Those influences helped me realize the value of education and eventually inspired me to pass it on.
Interviewer: What subjects do you teach, and what does your typical teaching day look like?
Ms. Pooja: I mainly teach English to grades 8 and 9, though I occasionally teach Social Studies and other subjects when needed. Managing a diverse classroom is one of the biggest challenges; some students need extra attention, while others quickly grasp concepts. Balancing these needs is something I work on every day.
Interviewer: Have you faced any unique challenges in your teaching career?
Ms. Pooja: Oh, absolutely! One instance that stands out is when I taught Social Studies to 3rd graders for a month. It was vastly different from teaching English, which focuses on speaking, reading, and writing. In English, getting grammar concepts across is particularly critical, and it requires innovative methods.
Interviewer: What strategies do you use to teach grammar effectively?
Ms. Pooja: I like to make learning fun and interactive. I use worksheets and gamify lessons to help students grasp grammar concepts more easily. When learning becomes play, students engage better and remember more!
Interviewer: How do you see the future of teaching evolving?
Ms. Pooja: The last few years have brought drastic changes, especially with the rise of technology and AI. I’m excited to see how these advancements will continue to transform education, making learning more accessible, efficient, and engaging for everyone.
Interviewer: How does Class Saathi fit into your teaching methods?
Ms. Pooja: Class Saathi has been a game-changer for me. The Saathi Genie feature makes it so simple to create questions with just a prompt. After completing a chapter, I use Class Saathi to identify which students are lagging behind. It helps me analyze their performance better and focus on the grammar concepts that need more attention.
Interviewer: What advice would you give to students?
Ms. Pooja: Always keep the zeal to learn and grow. The world is changing rapidly, especially with new technologies. Adaptability and a love for learning will take you far in life.
